Summerlin's Best Parks and Trails for Summer Adventures
One of the things that drew me to Summerlin years ago is how the community is woven into the desert landscape rather than built on top of it. The parks here are not afterthoughts — they are intentional, beautiful spaces designed to bring people together and connect them with the natural beauty all around us.
Summerlin has over 150 parks and more than 150 miles of trails. That is not a typo — one hundred fifty parks. During the summer months, getting outside early in the morning or later in the evening is one of the great pleasures of living here. Here are my personal favorites across the community.
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
I have to start here because it is truly world-class and it sits right at Summerlin's doorstep. The 13-mile scenic drive alone is worth the trip, but the real magic is on the trails. For a moderate family hike, the Calico Tanks trail is about 2.5 miles round trip and ends at a natural water basin with stunning views of the Las Vegas Strip. If you want something easier, the Children's Discovery Trail is a short interpretive loop perfect for little legs. Remember to bring plenty of water and go early — the parking lot fills up fast on summer weekends.
The Trails Village Parks
Within the villages of Summerlin, the parks are surprisingly diverse. The Trails Village alone has several parks connected by walking paths. Fox Hill Park is a neighborhood favorite with a shaded playground, basketball courts, and plenty of grass for a picnic. I love starting my morning here with a walk before the heat sets in — there is something peaceful about watching the neighborhood wake up.
Gardens Park in The Gardens Village
This is one of the larger community parks and it has something for everyone. A beautiful lake, a fishing pier, tennis courts, baseball fields, and a huge playground. It is the kind of park where you can spend an entire Saturday morning. The walking path around the lake is about a mile and offers shaded benches at regular intervals — perfect when you need to take a break from the heat.
Arroyo Crossing Park
Tucked away in the Arroyo Crossing neighborhood, this park features a beautiful linear trail沿着 with desert landscaping, a large grassy area, and a fantastic splash pad that keeps kids cool during the hot months. During summer afternoons, the splash pad is where the neighborhood kids gather, and parents chat under the shade structures. It is community life at its best.
Lone Mountain Park
For a quick hike that does not require driving all the way to Red Rock, Lone Mountain Park in northwest Summerlin is a hidden gem. The trail to the summit is about 1.7 miles round trip and rewards you with 360-degree views of the Las Vegas Valley. Go at sunset and you will understand why locals love this spot. It is also one of the best places in Summerlin to watch the Fourth of July fireworks — more on that in another post.

Summer is a wonderful time to explore Summerlin's outdoor spaces. Yes, it gets hot — but the community is designed for it. Parks have shade structures, trails have early morning beauty, and the desert landscape glows in a way that photos never quite capture. If you are considering moving here, or if you already live here and have not explored everything yet, I hope this guide inspires you to get outside.
Have a favorite park I missed? I would love to hear about it. And if you are thinking about buying a home near one of these amazing parks, let's find your perfect spot.
