Dog-Friendly Summerlin: Parks, Patios, and Trails Your Pup Will Love
Ask any Summerlin® dog owner and they will tell you the same thing: this is one of the most pet-friendly corners of the Las Vegas Valley. Between the miles of tree-lined village trails, a dedicated off-leash dog park, and patios that greet your pup like a regular, a four-legged family member settles in fast here. Over the years I have helped plenty of clients move to Summerlin with their dogs, so consider this the insider's guide I wish every new resident had. Grab the leash, because here is where Summerlin shines for dogs, and for the people who love them.
1. Start at Paw Park in The Trails
The most beloved dog destination in Summerlin is Paw Park, the dedicated off-leash run inside The Trails Park and Pool at 9550 Trails Center Drive, in The Trails village (89134). It is a classic neighborhood dog park: separate enclosures for big and small pups, plenty of shade, and a friendly morning crowd of regulars who trade tips on everything from groomers to veterinarians. Summerlin's village parks generally require dogs to stay leashed, so these dedicated enclosures are where your dog gets to sprint, chase, and socialize to their heart's content.
2. Hit the Trails, Then Hike Red Rock
Summerlin is threaded with more than 150 miles of trails, and with fall arriving, September and October are the sweet spot for morning and evening walks with your pup: the summer heat gives way to the best hiking weather of the year. For a bigger adventure, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area welcomes leashed dogs on nearly all of its trails, as long as the leash stays six feet or shorter and you bag and carry out your pet's waste. Dogs are not allowed inside the buildings, and never, ever leave your dog in a parked car, even with the windows cracked.
3. Patio Life: Downtown Summerlin and Tivoli Village
Downtown Summerlin (89135) is built for the two of you, from the Saturday farmers market stroll to the evening fountain shows. When your pup has earned a rest, Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar keeps water bowls outside and even offers a dedicated dog menu, while Grape Street Cafe's patio around the corner is a favorite for a glass of wine and some prime people watching. Over at Tivoli Village, the big covered patios at Leoné Café and Echo & Rig are routinely full of well-behaved dogs and their owners.
4. Desert Rules That Keep Your Dog Safe
A few habits keep every outing safe in our climate. Before any pavement walk, press the back of your hand to the sidewalk for five seconds; if it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for paws. Walk early in the morning or after sunset through the warmer months, carry water for both of you, and remember that Clark County requires dogs to be leashed everywhere except designated off-leash parks.
“Where you live in Summerlin shapes your dog's everyday life, so when clients ask which village fits their family, the trail access and nearby dog spots are part of the answer.”
If you are moving to Summerlin with a dog, or adopting one once you arrive (a very popular Summerlin move), every village has its charms. The Trails has Paw Park at its heart, The Paseos offers Fox Hill Park with big lawns and shaded paths, and Summerlin South puts Red Rock's trails surprisingly close to home. Search homes in The Trails or see current Summerlin listings, and I will help you find the right spot for your whole family, four-legged members included. Let's talk.
